This is one of the few books I’ve run across that addresses the meaning of money in therapy, and it blew me away! I’m in school to be a psychotherapist and have worked on Wall Street for 15 years. Debra does an incredible job of tracing the themes of power, control, sex, money, and addiction prevalent in that world back to their roots in childhood attachment. Her narratives of outwardly successful clients who struggle to emotionally connect should be immediately recognizable to anyone involved with partners who are driven by the quest for power and money at the expense of their closest relationships. At the heart of this book is the message that emptiness and meaningless are the rewards of a life spent searching for external validation. Well written and courageous, For Love or Money challenges the dominant narrative of our achievement-oriented society. I highly recommend it to all!
